Iguazú Falls Post Voyage Extension for Explorer and Endurance

Thundering falls in an extraordinary subtropical, wild forest

Taller than Niagara, Iguazú Falls is also twice as wide, with 275 cascades spread in a horseshoe shape over nearly 2 miles of the Iguazú River. Situated in Iguazú National Park in northeastern Argentina, this natural sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage site owing to its beautiful landscapes and subtropical forest, with 450 species of birds, including toucans and parrots, and butterflies, orchids, and endangered jaguars.

Note: On select  National Geographic Endurance  departures this may run as a pre-voyage extension. Please call for details.

Day 1 - Ushuaia, Argentina/Disembark/Buenos Aires

Disembark our ship in Ushuaia and proceed to the airport for our flight to Buenos Aires, where we transfer to the luxurious Alvear Art Hotel (or similar, Explorer) or the Alvear Icon Hotel (or similar, Endurance). This seductive city, set along the Rio de La Plata, has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. Settle into your hotel, conveniently located in the fashionable Recoleta district with its shops and galleries, and have dinner at your leisure this evening. (B)

Day 2 - Iguazú Falls: Lower/Upper Circuit and Nautical Adventure

After our short flight from Buenos Aires to Iguazú, we take a 15-minute bus ride to Iguazú National Park. We’ve reserved rooms with stunning views of the falls at the Meliã Iguazú Hotel. Following lunch at the hotel, we have our first close-up views of the falls. A naturalist-led walk of the Lower and Upper Circuits offers an intimate experience of the rainforest and our first views of the Iguazú River. Weather permitting, we then stroll the catwalk that leads to river level, where we board small boats for a ride over water rapids—a spectacular approach offering panoramic views of the rushing waters. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Bird-watching and viewing the falls

This morning we’ll explore the national park’s diverse environment and observe a variety of bird species. Our expert local guides have special authority to access areas of the park before the public is allowed to enter to spot the most interesting local birds, including toucans and parrots.

Next we’ll visit more sections of Iguazú Falls. Multiple cascades drop 350 feet with such force that there is always a 100-foot cloud of spray overhead. Watch for the rainbow! Dinner this evening will be at a typical restaurant in Puerto Iguazú. (B, D)

Day 4-5 - Iguazú/Buenos Aires/Home

This morning we’ll fly back to Buenos Aires and enjoy a traditional lunch in Recoleta. Afterward we will transfer to the airport to connect to an overnight flight to the U.S. (B, L)
